During times of war
the Performance Artist crawls from the Brandenburg Gate along the historical parade axis of Berlin’s Straße des 17. Juni with the goal of reaching the Siegessäule. The performance kriech + frieden addresses war—constantly present and current in the world. The crawling, animalistic, ground-level movement in the archetypical horizontal was a subject of the Kosovo War, the first European war since World War II in which the deployment of ground troops was debated and implemented.
Crawlings
appears as a typical form of movement in war, through which people leave their cultural stance of verticality. The crawling of the woman. War. One of the most popular and powerful weapons is the media, which in this case is represented by a camera directed at the performer throughout the entire crawling time. The mediated nature of warfare is considered the most effective worldwide.
